That’s the premise of the new book titled, “The Struggle for Sicilian Independence,” by the late Giuseppe Sciano, a political activist and intellectual from Sicily. The Risorgimento was nothing more than an illegal invasion of Italy’s South by Italy’s North, at the behest of the British Empire, according to Mr. Sciano. Traitors, corrupt politicians, spies and mafiosi were employed by the British crown to aid and abet General Gisueppe Garibaldi to conquer the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Professor Gaetano Cipolla, founder of Arba Sicula, a non-profit organization devoted to all things Sicilian, edited and translated the manuscript, as submitted by Giuseppe Sciano, some years before his passing. PRIMO’s editor, Truby Chiaviello, interviewed Professor Cipolla, regarding the many details in the book to show Sicily, before and after the unification of Italy. Sicily was a land thriving with a dynamic population, sound government, minimal taxation, and gold backed currency. After the Risorgimento, however, came political graft and corruption, a huge increase taxes, the gold absconded by Garibaldi to pay the debts of the North, the establishment of the mafia and a demeaning, racist view of the South by the North, still prevalent today. “The Struggle for Sicilian Independence” can be purchased at https://arbasicula.org/books/#!/c/0/o… The web site for Arba Sicula is https://arbasicula.org/ PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO PRIMO’S YOUTUBE CHANNEL Please visit PRIMO’s web site at www.onlineprimo.com.
